Lee calls out Labor-Greens political stunt

Canberra Liberals Leader Elizabeth Lee has slammed a so-called ‘Territory Rights’ motion put forward by Andrew Barr in the Legislative Assembly today as nothing more than a stunt from the Labor-Greens government.

Ms Lee said this was clearly just a poor attempt by Labor and the Greens to throw accusations and sling mud under the disguise of a Territory Rights motion.

“On behalf of the Canberra Liberals I will be writing to the Speaker of the House and the President of the Senate reiterating our strong support for Territory Rights,” Ms Lee said.

“The Canberra Liberals remain strongly in support of Territory Rights, our position very clear.

“This motion, brought forward by Andrew Barr is no more than a political stunt aimed at deflecting from the way his government is treating the people of Canberra - with disrespect and contempt.

“What we have seen by this Labor-Greens government are two motions this week designed purely to score cheap political points.

“While families, seniors and our most vulnerable are struggling with a cost-of-living crisis, with our health system in disarray, our schools and teachers under intense pressure and many Canberrans being forced out of the housing market just to name a few significant problems, this government would rather use the Assembly for cheap political point scoring.

“This is an arrogant, tired government that is all about spin and must be called out for their utter disregard for the issues that are hurting many Canberrans,” Ms Lee concluded.

Ms Lee moved an amendment to the motion. Her ammendment noted ‘all members of the ACT Legislative Assembly support the right of the ACT Assembly to make and pass laws’ and that there is ‘tri partisan support in the ACT Assembly for Territory Rights’ and that the Speaker of the Assembly relay to the Senate and House of Representatives the ACT Legislative Assembly’s support for Territory Rights.
