Serious questions to be answered by Leader of ACT Greens

The Canberra Liberals are extremely concerned about the grave allegations made regarding the conduct of ACT Greens MLA Johnathan Davis and it is right and proper that he has made the decision to resign.

This is an incredibly distressing situation for all those involved, and the broader Canberra community.

What is also concerning are reports that those involved have had to go public due to inaction by the ACT Greens when these serious allegations were first raised.

There are still significant concerns regarding how this has been handled by the ACT Greens and there are still a number of questions that need to be answered.

The Leader of the ACT Greens – and the ACT’s Attorney-General – must be upfront with Canberrans about:

  • What are the specific allegations that were raised with the Leader of the ACT Greens on Monday 6 November?

  • Did these allegations include potential criminal activity?

  • If these allegations included potential criminal activity, why did the Leader of the ACT Greens not take this to the police immediately?

  • Why did it take a media enquiry on the evening of Thursday 9 November for the ACT Greens to finally act on these allegations that were reported to the Leader of the ACT Greens four days earlier?

  • Has the Leader of the ACT Greens or the ACT Greens party received any previous complaints or allegations relating to the conduct of Mr Davis?

These are very serious allegations that have been made about the conduct of an MLA and how this serious complaint was handled by the ACT Greens must be scrutinised.

The Canberra Liberals call for an independent review on the handling of this by the Leader of the ACT Greens and the ACT Greens party.
